Zambia to introduce new airport charge

update (02 Oct 2012): According to a post from Tongabezi Lodge (Livingstone, Zambia) on their facebook page, Zambia National Airports Corporation (NACL) announced that they would not be charging the new aviation and infrastructure charge on domestic and international flights. Can one confirm it? It is confirmed, the airport tax has been suspended until further notice.

The National Airports Corporation (NACL) of Zambia will introduce a new Aviation Infrastructure and Development charge. From 01 Sept 2012 01 Oct 2012, the charge will apply to all passengers travelling through Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka, Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International in Ndola, Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport in Livingstone and Mfuwe International Airport in Mfuwe regardless of when their tickets were issued. The new Aviation Infrastructure and Development charge will be payable direct to the NACL airport offices along with departure and security taxes. Travellers on international flights will need to verify with their airline whether the charge is already included in their airfare or payable at the airport.

The charges are:
  • Domestic: ZMK 28,000.00 (+/- R46 | €4.50 | GBP3.60 | US$5.60)
  • International: ZMK 56,000.00 (+/- R92 | €9.10 | GBP7.20 | US$11.30)
